We understand that navigating services and related insurance benefits can be a complex and difficult task.

With this understanding, we hope that the questions below will assist you in identifying quality providers in your area.

Questions to Ask ABA Providers

ABA Logic recommends to all families on the waitlist that they ask the following questions when seeking ABA services in order to ensure that they will receive quality care and competent service providers.

Have you got any questions?

  • Look for an agency that values parent training and ensures that parents and caregivers are involved. The goal should be for your child to build, generalize, and maintain skillsets acquired in session and this is heavily reliant upon parent and caregiver participation.

  • The number of supervision hours will typically depend on the number of hours your child requires for direct ABA treatment, however it is wise to get a general idea on the frequency of home visits conducted by a BCBA as this lends itself to efficient program development and overall effectiveness of ABA treatment.

For example, if your child receives 20 hours per week of direct ABA, the BCBA must provide supervision at minimum 5% of your monthly direct ABA hours over the course of a calendar month. Keep in mind that this is the minimum requirement and not necessarily the gold standard. Therefore, a BCBA may conduct weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly supervision sessions. A BCBA conducting weekly supervision sessions will likely recognize necessary program changes to propel progress more efficiently than a BCBA conducting monthly supervision sessions.

  • Higher retention rates are indicative of high-quality leadership paired with skilled and enthusiastic service providers. With the amount of time that it can take for a service provider to build a rapport with a child, it is important to rest assured that there will not be frequent staffing changes throughout treatment.
